Piteros Panagiotis

Panagiotis Piteros was born in Tripoli in 1978. From a young age he was involved in painting, taking icon painting lessons in his hometown. He is a self-taught painter who studied for a short time in the workshop of Angelos Glynos, while for more than 10 years he was close to the architect and painter Dimitris Talaganis, who inspired him to a great extent. In his works he uses pencil, charcoal, oils and soft pastel and his subject matter mainly includes portraits and landscapes. In addition to figurative compositions, he also experiments with abstract art.

The work entitled “The Optimism of the General”, which he created in 2015, is inspired by the portrait of the painter Dionysios Tsokos. In it, Piteros uses pencil and charcoal, making strong outlines and emphasizing mainly the epaulettes and helmet of Kolokotronis, in order to highlight the European prestige, as he himself states, of the general, as this was not the uniform of Greece. Furthermore, he renders in his own way the gaze of the depicted person and presents it with more optimism. One element that is worth focusing on is the artist’s ancient signature, which presents elements of Hellenism.
