Antonopoulos Angelos

Angelos Antonopoulos was born in Tropea, Arcadia, in 1957. He studied painting at the Athens School of Fine Arts (ASFA), under the guidance of professors D. Mytaras, D. Kokkinidis, V. Dimitreas, and scenography with V. Vasileiadis. Since 1986, he has held solo exhibitions in Greece and Cyprus and has participated in group exhibitions both in Greece and abroad. He has created decorations for the cinema, including the Ideal cinema in Athens and Cineak in Piraeus. He has taught painting at the Art Workshop of Chalcis and, since 1989, has been teaching at the First Painting Workshop of ASFA.

The “Portrait of Theodoros Kolokotronis,” which is part of the collection of the Municipality of Tripolis, was created in 2015 using pencil and charcoal. The artist was inspired by the lithographed portrait of the same subject by the Philhellene Adam de Friedel (1823). His composition is simple and austere, with an emphasis on the face and gaze of the leader of the 1821 Revolution.
